Traditional Christmas Eve

By Gabriela Martinez

Hi, I am Gabriela from room 338. I celebrate Christmas by listening to Christmas music. We usually start at eight o'clock, and eat food and fruits. We usually start putting the decorations up after Thanksgiving. We chant, laugh, and watch Christmas movies together. When it is about 11:45pm on Christmas eve, we all put the gifts under the tree. Then at midnight, all the kids gather near the tree. We start by the youngest to oldest to open presents. Then, it is optional if you want to open your present at the celebration or at home. What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

Christmas!

By Danelis Encarnacion

Christmas is a day when your family and you open gifts together. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Christmas is a day of smiles and talking. I love Christmas! I love waiting to see the many gifts under the Christmas tree. My favorite part of the day is seeing my little cousins faces when they wake up to a tree full of gifts. Christmas is the best part of the year, don't you think?

Christmas Fun!

By Ashley Lopez

My family has a Christmas tradition. When it is Christmas my family invites friends and other family members over. First we eat, then we watch T.V. for a while. After we play games like musical chairs and put a spoon in your mouth and put a lemon the spoon, walk to the other side, then come back without dropping the lemon. Another game we play is to get 10 small balls and throw them into cups. There are more fun games that we play and if you win you get a prize!

Book Review: Dork Diaries 10

By Ashley Lopez

The Dork Diaries 10: Tales From A Not-So-Perfect Pet Sitter by Rachel Renee Russell is one of the best books I have read. It is funny and for Nikki and Brandon it is romantic. I would give this book 5 stars! ***** It was about a girl named Nikki and a boy named Brandon who find a dog and her puppies outside a store. They take turns taking care of the dogs. I really think you should read this book!

Science Experiment: How To Make Slime

By Lia Hernandez & Gabriela Martinez

So first of all my name is Lia Hernandez. I am going to be telling you about how to make slime properly since sometimes people try to make slime with products like downy. Here is a list of the products that I have used and have worked for me and I think they will work for you:

1. Tide

2. Eye contact solution

3. Borax

4. Baking soda

These products work because they have a chemical in hem that effects the glue and shaving cream. All of the products work together to make the slime when you put them in. So those are the products I think you should use to mix your slime. I hope this atricle helped you!!!

Hi, I am Gabriela Martinez. I'm in room 338. These are the steps to follow to make your own slime!

Interview with Mrs. Carnevale

By Ana Niz

1. What inspired you to be a reading teacher?

I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl! But, I didn't know that I wanted to work on just one thing, like reading, until I was in college. That's when I decided to teach students who speak more than one language and students that are learning English as their second language. We do work a lot on reading in English, but we also work to become better at listening, speaking and writing in English.

2. Do you like being a reading teacher?

I love being a teacher who works with a small group of students. I get to know each student very well and I get to watch them get smarter and smarter throughout the year. Also, I do enjoy working with students on reading, but I think I like to work on writing with students even more

3. Do you think of being a teacher that has a classroom?

I thought about having my own classroom when I was in college, and sometimes, ever once in a while, I still think about it. Traveling to all the classrooms in third grade makes the day go by so fast! Plus, if I had a classroom, I'd have to teach math and that makes me a little nervous. I could do it with some practice, I think!

4. Do you like to work with kids?

I really love working with kids. I would babysit for kids when I was a teenager and I worked with kids at a summer camp. Now that I'm a teacher, I get to have fun with kids every day. It's the best!

5. How long have you worked here?

I have worked at Cobbet for 5 years and I have worked with students in grades 2 through 5. I worked here when I was in college too. I was learning and practicing to be a teacher and my college sent me to Cobbet to work with Mrs. Uk and learn from her. If you count that year, then I've been at Cobbet for 6 years all together.

Stuck on Reading Assembly

By Gabriela Martinez

On October 6th, 2017 we had the Stuck on Reading assembly at Cobbet. This year there were so many students who did their summer reading. We had the best turnout we have ever had! Did you know that even teachers who did their summer reading got a piece of duct tape? They started to tape Mrs. Garrity to the wall in the big gym! the duct tape was different colors like purple, blue, peach, green, and a variety of colors! We had so much fun!

COOKING CLUB

Celery Experiments

By Ashley Lopez & Ana Niz

In our class we are doing a celery experiment. First, we have to cut 1/4 of the celery. Get a glass jar and add some water in it. Then, put 15 drops of food coloring in the jar. After, we stir with the celery gently and put it in. We have to wait and observe the celery.

My prediction is that the food coloring is going to be in the celery - Ana

My prediction is the celery will turn into a different color - Ashley

Book Review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway

By Joselin Perez

This book is about a kid that goes on a vacation with his family, and he forgets his luggage. Will he find it or have to use some else's luggage? Well he uses another person's luggage and gets caught by security. he was staying at this place called The Wild Side before he was with his family. When he was caught he got kicked out right away. Then his family had to wait a long time to go back. Of course they had to return the things to the family. When they got back they said that home was where they were going to stay after all of the confusion. I liked this book and I would recommend it to you to read!

Winter Olympics 2018

By Lia Hernandez

The Winter Olympics are competitions of different winter events that some people do in the winter. For example: "Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsled racing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skating, ice hockey, luge, nordic combined, short track speed skating, ski jumping and snowboarding." The mascots for the olympics are Bandabi the "Asiatic black bear and Soohorange the white tiger." Facts about Soohorange and Bandabi that I learned are; "the white tiger is considered Korea's guardian animal, and closely related to Korean mythology. The mascot represents trust and protection and the strength of the athletes. Bandabi the bear is a symbol of strong will and courage." Some other interesting facts I learned during my research about the olympics:

1. "There are more female and mixed events than at any other Olympics in history"

2. "There are a record 102 medal events during these Olympic games. 259 sets of medals have been cast for the games."

3. "The medals that will be awarded to athletes were designed to represent Pyeong Chang. It is known for its mountain forests, but ironically an entire forest was destroyed to create a ski run for the games."

4. "The fabric from which the medals hang is a South Korean fabric called gaspa. It is lightweight, sheer fabric. For the games, the fabric has been embroidered with Korean symbols."

5. "Due to a scandal, Russia has been banned from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Athletes from Russia may still compete, but they must do so as individuals, not as part of their country and cannot wear any uniforms that represent Russia."
