Fall 2016

The Turkey Trot

By Jiannie Rivera

Hi it is Jiannie. I want to talk about the Turkey Trot. The turkey trot is when you run a mile or two. It was at Cobbet elementary school. The gym teacher Mrs. Marrie planned the Turkey Trot for our school. We started at 7:15 and trotted until 7:45. Lots of Cobbet  Cougar kids ran the Turkey Trot. In my opinion it was awesome! I think they should do it again next year also. IT was really good exercse, as I ran moe than 12 laps. What did YOU think about the Turkey Trot?

If you have a quote or photographs to share about this event, you can reach my editor, Miss Bartlett at bartlettk@lynnschools.org.

Letter From The Editor

Welcome back to the Cobbet Chronicles!

The reporters at Cobbet have been hard at work, brainstorming ideas about how to bring you the latest news! They have been gaining lots of new tech skills throughout this process: creating keynote presentations, saving and using images from safari on an iPad, and using wireless technology (iPads & air drop) to share ideas and collaborate with one another when editing and publishing our writing.

It has been so exciting to see reporters back from last year as well as many new faces on our team! I hope you enjoy reading their writing as much as I do!

-Miss Kelsey Bartlett, Editor-in-Chief

Stuck on Reading Challenge

Mrs. Garrity offered an exciting incentive to her students last June. Each child who completed their summer reading was promised a piece of duct tape to use as part of a group effort to tape Mrs. Garrity to the wall. On Friday, September 30th she held up her end of the bargain!  The challenge was a massive success, with a 500% increase in the number of students who complete their summer reading. Congratulations to all those who participated, and a special thank you to Mrs. Garrity for being such a great support to her students!

Monsterville: A Book Review

By Marlin LeBron

I read a book called Monsterville, the author is R.L. Stine. He also wrote all of the Goosebumps books. I'd give this book five stars ***** because it was very very interesting! It was about a group of friends hanging out at a Halloween carnival. Their names were Kellen, Beth, Luke, and Nicole. They went to the Hall of Horrors where Beth got lost and she found out that monsters are real! So that's all and I hope you enjoyed reading my review! What do you think, are monsters real or not?

Many students at Cobbet are becoming technology pros this year! They have been putting their skills to use while using iRead, FirstInMath, and eBooks via their apps on the iPads. Cobbet students participated in the Nationwide Hour of Code event during the week of December 5th-9th. They were led by their teachers and Miss Shannon Bansfield, our Director of Technology for all Lynn Public Schools.

Interview About Pickering Middle School

By Diane Lopez

Interview with Michell an 8th grader at Pickering Middle School in Lynn.

D: Is math harder in Middle School?

M: Yes.  There are many math projects that you have to do at home and then present in class the next day.  The teacher grades you on your project and how you present it!

D:  Is there a lot of homework in middle school?

M:  Yes, there are a lot of homework assignments.  There are four main classrooms and a few different clusters.  Clusters are groupings of students at each grade level that travel together.

D: What are the sports that you can play in middle school?

M:  The sports are basketball (boys/girls), baseball (boys) and softball for girls, dodgeball, hockey and track/field.

D: Is there recess in middle school?

M: No, because we are getting older and there is no time for recess.

Tips from Michell

- DO your homework or end up in detention!

- Tests are a big part of your report card grade.

- You carry a lot of binders for each class.  KEEP THEM ORGANIZED!!!

- Pay attention or then you will get things wrong on tests!

- You now have to write FIVE paragraphs in your essays!
